HESP Consultation Salary/Update

HESP is the only Union to hold a Non-Instructional Consultation seat in HISD for:

Transportation/Maintenance

Although People's Choice, TWU and Local 1 Unions are not at the consultation table, HESP President Wretha Thomas will propose issues across the board pertaining to benefits, working conditions and salaries that will help all workers, because all aforementioned benefits must go through the Consultation Process".

During this month's consultation meeting held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, HESP proposed that the Deloitte Study (the study of salaries and benefits) across the board be honored.  A few years ago, Dr. Abe Saavedra approved and committed for a Salary Study at the request of HESP Union. The study was to be completed in two phases in order to align all employees salaries with their proper category. Unfortunately, Dr. Saavedra left the district before completing phase II and HISD Administrators failed to continue with the study.

One of the biggest problems encountered is that most of the employees that come in off the street are being paid 2 for 1 which was put in place by Dr. Rod Paige.  HESP ask that this issue be revisited and a better hiring practice that is equally fair to all employees be implemented because it is totally unjust.  There are many employees who have as much as 20-25 years seniority with the district, and their salaries are far less than those who have been in the district approximately 8-9 years.  It appears that there are new people making $5,000.00 -$10,000.00 more per year than senior employees.  We are asking Superintendent Terry Grier and his Administrators to please take the proper steps to get this issue resolved.  HESP believes that this will greatly eliminate a lot of turn-over and boost the morale of the employees who have worked tireless and diligently over the years.

Sincerely,

President
Wretha Thomas
