Florida Alliance and State of Florida Reach Agreement to Make Voting Easier

 Older voters throughout Florida will be able to vote more easily in November while protecting their health as a result of a significant voting rights agreement between the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans and the State of Florida being filed today. In addition, Florida election officials at the state and local level will take specific steps to ensure that all eligible voters understand their options for voting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Write a Letter: A Safe Plan for Salem's Schools

The Salem Teachers Union, and many members of our community, are deeply concerned about returning Salem's students back to the school buildings before the safest possible environment can be created. In the meantime, our district must create a robust remote learning plan to start the 2020-2021 school year and pay particular attention to engaging the students who were left behind during last Spring's school closures.

Please join us in requesting that the Mayor, School Committee, and Superintendent pursue a thoughtful and effective remote learning model for the beginning of the school year.

Aftermath of Yesterday's Storm

If you are a teleworker today and you are unable to work from home b/c you don't have power at home, please contact your supervisor before simply going into the office.  Most agencies do NOT want hordes of people descending upon the building on a single day.  If your supervisor gives you the green light to come into the office, then feel free to do so.  If you contact your supervisor then you should be considered "on-the-clock" until you get a determination.   Also, (although untested), we believe travel time to the agency would count as time worked.  If you wish to use a PL/Vac time, you s

Right to Know Request and Appeal Withdrawn

On June 17, 2020, the Office of Administration sent you a notice about a Right to Know Law request and appeal filed by Ben Straka of the Freedom Foundation, in which he was seeking the middle names and day and month of birth for commonwealth employees. 
 
Mr. Straka withdrew his appeal (OOR AP#2020-0571) in the Office of Open Records. As a result, the Office of Administration’s denial of employee middle names and day and month of birth will stand, and no further action is required to prevent the disclosure of this information to Mr. Straka.
