We are excited that so many United Faculty and Academic Staff (UFAS) members are running for political office. This is part of a nationwide trend among American Federation of Teachers members.

Over the last few contract negotiations, we have been pushing the district to giving more rights and protections to per diem staff. Our per diems are typically Newark community members, and in many cases, they work close to the same schedule as full time staff. But despite this, the district, especially while under state control, seemed reluctant to acknowledge the importance of these staff by providing them with higher salaries, benefits, or more protection.
In our last contract, we finally got NPS to agree to pay our per diem aides $15 an hour!
Every May, social media timelines flood with pictures and warm wishes for nurses, those invaluable medical professionals who often stand on the front line of health and wellness for people from all walks of life. It’s easy to join in the chorus of people appreciating nurses during that week in May when we celebrate them, but what about when the nation’s attention turns away?

A highlight of the convention was the impactful speakers that delegates and guests heard from over three days in Pittsburgh. The headliner among them was former Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for President of the United States, Hillary Clinton.
