Meeting for potential members: Benefits of Union Membership

The City Union of Baltimore invites Potential CUB Members to participate in one of two Sessions: "The Benefits of Union Membership"

The dates are:

  • Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 5:00p.m.
  • Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.

The maximum number of participants for each session is thirty-five {35} potential CUB members.

Financial Education Classes for CUB members

The City Union of Baltimore invites CUB Members to participate in one of three Baltimore CASH Campaign's Financial Education Classes.

The dates are:

  • Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.
    (If requested an early morning weekday class may possibly be added)

The maximum number of participants for each class is thirty {30} members.

BTU Members testify against Guns in Classrooms

Following the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, communities and legislatures across the country are trying to develop ways to ensure student and teacher safety in the school building. One suggestion brought forth in the Maryland House of Delegates was a bill allowing teachers and educational staff to be armed.

Free college for OFT members

Yes, it's true - free college. OFT members can enroll in Eastern Gateway Community College's online distance-learning program with no costs for tuition, fees or e-texts. Credits earned can be transferred to a four-year college.

Labor Union Women: Karen Heppner

Karen Heppner has demonstrated the type of leadership and activism that would make any union member proud. She has been a registered nurse working for the state of Maryland at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for over 20 years. When the state refused to pay the negotiated retention bonus to nurses at her facility, she led the fight to force management to honor the contract. She organized nurses at her facility, where a class action complaint was filed, which led to a decision in the union’s favor from an independent arbitrator.

Labor Union Women: Tiffany Walker

Tiffany Walker is employed with the City of Baltimore as Community Liaison I with the Department of Public Works. Mrs. Walker was elected as Secretary for CUB in October 2010. She served two terms before being elected Executive Vice President in October 2016. She has since moved to working as a CUB Labor Relations Specialist to better serve the membership. Tiffany has always been active within the union serving as a delegate as well as on several committees such as the COPE, Personnel, Social, and Constitution and By-laws committees. She was chairperson of the COPE committee and has remained active on this committee to this day.

HFT Officer Election and Constitutional Updates

 

Ballots for the HFT officer elections and consitutional updates are currently being sent to members to their last known work location.  Returned ballots must be postmarked by March 22, 2018.  The elections committee will tabulate the results on Monday, March 26th, 5:00 pm at the HFT offices.  Please see a sample ballot and complete document with updates to the constiution below.
