Drawing on March 22^nd for two (2) Union Members to attend the Annual AFT Paraprofessionals and School-Related Personnel Conference (April 27th-30th)

AFT-NH will have a drawing on March 22^nd  for two AFT-NH PSRP members (whose local is in good standing with AFT and AFT-NH) to attend the Annual AFT PSRP Conference in Detroit, Michigan.  Two names from the same local must be submitted together as a team since the drawing is based on double occupancy.  Individuals who have previously won a trip to the Conference in the past five years are ineligible to apply.  Each pair of applicants should write brief statements outlining their accomplishments as PSRPs union members and also what they hope to accomplish by attending the conference.  Attendees will report on the conference to the May 2017 AFT-NH Board of Directors meeting.

Winners will receive a trip including airfare, hotel accommodations and registration to the Annual Conference.  Reasonable expenses will also be paid.

Construction on Renaissance Village, new teacher housing in Welch, began in Spring 2019. This housing initiative will provide two floors of apartments along with two floors of commercial space. The apartments are completed and are now move-in ready. We believe this project will spur and facilitate economic growth in the community. Read more.

Baltimore was out in full force for the Metro Baltimore AFL-CIO Rally in Annapolis on Monday, March 6th. The collective unions of the AFT-Maryland stood in solidarity with their sisters and brothers in labor. There were speakers representing nearly every sector of labor including two of AFT-Maryland’s own.

Dear Union Colleagues and Supporters,

Your Union colleagues around the state have spent countless hours negotiating fair and reasonable contracts with their employers. On Tuesday, March 14^th contracts will be presented to voters in many districts. There are five AFT-NH contracts on ballots on this date. There will also be important votes to approve budgets, stop outsourcing and save police department positions. On Saturday, March 18^th, there will be an important town meeting in Pittsfield where we are asking people to show up and vote to restore the two police officer positions which are being cut. Public safety matters! We are asking that if you live in one the towns below that you take the time to be sure to vote in support of these contracts and encourage your friends and family to vote. When we act in unity, we make a difference every time!

Together by supporting those who work with our children and adequately funding our schools, we can reclaim the promise of public education. We also must make certain that vital public safety services are funded appropriately.

Please remind folks that they can register to vote at the polls with proper identification and proof of residency! There’s still time to get an absentee ballot for voting on 3/14 if you will be out of town or unable to vote. Voting locations and times are provided below!

As we prepare ourselves to take on continued attacks on the right to collectively bargain, UHP is launching a recommitment drive. We have new membership cards that we are asking all our members to sign.

GET-UP is not just a group of graduate students, a campaign to be recognized as employees, and a venue for grievances: we are a union. A union is both a community of interest that unites for the purposes of collectively bargaining a contract and a collective of people who have each other’s backs. We believe that a contract produced by collective bargaining could address general and specific issues facing graduate students, as well as guarantee more democratic avenues for grads to participate in the institution.

My name is Daniel Pieczkolon and I’m an adjunct in the English department at Arcadia University. I’m excited to announce that we’ve just filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board to form a union at Arcadia!

Negotiations Update

While we were unable to reach a settlement, a considerable amount of work was done at the February 15 mediation session.  The mediator made a proposal for compensation that he believes is fair to MHFT and the District. He directed both sides to present this to their leadership (our Executive Council and the School Board). If both parties agree to the mediator’s proposal, he believes that we can reach a settlement soon.
