Urgent Action Needed – Time Sensitive

The Santa Clara County School Board will appoint a replacement for Leon Beauchman this Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. You might remember him, as he was the president during the most recent charter school appeals and voted across the board in favor of the charter schools, regardless of the overwhelming deficiencies or recommendations of their staff. This appointment could be a key change for the SCCOE board.

The PTA is hosting a "Meet the Candidate Night" at the Old Junior High on Wednesday, May 6th from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Maryland State Employees know about tightening our belts more than anyone. AFT-Maryland is calling on Governor Hogan to stop his 2% cuts to state employees and agencies. Using the hashtag #My2Percent, we are asking members on social media to let the Governor know how losing two percent of your salary will affect you.

We are standing with our neighbors to build a better city for all of the residents of Baltimore. We continue to fight for justice for all.

At this time of tension and anxiety regarding the tragic events surrounding Mr. Freddie Gray, we have a heightened responsibility to our students, families, and school communities. First, the safety of our staff and students is our top concern. We are in constant contact with the Mayor’s Office, Baltimore City Police Department, and the City Health Department, and are coordinating with them to ensure we are ready to respond to situations as they arise.

April 17 and 18 marked the 2nd Annual NDU Delegate Assembly. Members from across the state met in Bismarck, North Dakota to take care of business and create some memories.

Members in attendance were treated to a moving Color Guard, prsented by Myron Johnson/Nathan Goodiron American Legion Post 271, from Mandaree. North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp spoke about the important education issues facing our country today and Attorney General Wayne Stehenjem stopped by to discuss what we can do to keep our kids safe from internet predators.
