(New Orleans – May 16, 2014) The board of one of America’s highest performing high schools has agreed to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with teachers. On Thursday night, Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans became the city’s second charter school to embrace the collective voice of their teaching staff by formally recognizing a union.

The Community Engagement Committee of AFT-Maryland partnered with the Baltimore Teachers Union,

AFT-Maryland members, staff, and community partners joined other members of AFT and The Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools on Tuesday, May 13,

MHFT is planning several community outreach events to promote real engagement with our community in support of our students and neighborhood public schools. The Federation and the District believe that building relationships and partnerships with parents and community members is essential to improving student achievement. We encourage every MHUSD employee to join in this dialogue.
