Election season brought wins and losses to NDPEA

The November elections are behind us and I think I speak for all of us when I say that I’m not going to miss the campaign commercials.

However, with the legislative session just around the corner, I am going to miss some public employee champions who will no longer be serving in the chambers of the Capitol.

‘Pathways’ plan for universities aims to increase transparency

Dr. Hamid Shirvani has made a big impression in a relatively short amount of time, since taking over as Chancellor of the North Dakota University System in July, he has charged headfirst into tackling the challenges facing him and all the faculty, staff, administration and students of the higher education system.

Within a couple months of starting, he had proposed a bold plan for reforming the university system, titled the “Pathways to Student Success.” This plan remakes the landscape of higher education.

GOALS

Restored revenues
Revenues collected by the state are used to pay for New Mexico’s public education systems. Unfortunately, the amount of revenues invested by lawmakers in K-12 schools, colleges, universities, students, and education employees has declined dramatically in the last decade. To implement New Mexico’s constitutional mandate to sufficiently fund world-class education systems, lawmakers shall pass legislation to restore revenue generators by:
